The Fetislam fortress is located on the very bank of the Danube west of Kladovo. It consists of the Small and the Great Fort. A small fort, which forms the upper and lower coastal area, was built in 1524 as a starting point for the Turkish conquest of Severin and Erdelj.
The modern functional organization of Fetislam derives from the authentic historical division of the complex, found modern functions that remain for further use and new needs. This urban project recognizes three basic zones; Zone A – Big City, Zone B – Sports complex, Zone C – Small City. They were formed in a way that creates conditions for the permanent preservation of the historical image of the complex. According to the concept of the plan, the Small and Great Forts are a separate functional unit, as it was in the past, and next to them, the newly created sports center stands out as an independent unit. The project preserves the primary historical pedestrian transversal that connects Varoš with the Danube Gate and at the same time Mali Grad. In addition, this communication is used to power the southeastern part of the complex within the Great Fort, intended for various social gatherings, and to simultaneously separate sports activities in the northwestern part.
