Location:
The building is located on the western side of the Staro Sajmište complex in Belgrade, on cadastral plot no. 2356, cadastral municipality of Novi Beograd. The Italian Pavilion building occupies the entire parcel. The Italian Pavilion, together with the Czechoslovak Exhibition Pavilion, is connected by a parcel forming a landscaped park unit bordered by access roads. The parcel of the Italian Pavilion follows the shape of the building itself and covers an area of approximately 818.00 m².
The building is a free-standing structure, ground floor level (G+0), originally built in 1937, and extended after World War II to one floor (G+1), prior to the introduction of modern construction regulations. It consists of two main wings, with curved ends forming an atrium-type courtyard. The roof ridge has a dual orientation: north-south for one wing, and east-west for the other. The building is connected to the rest of the complex via internal roads, pathways, and green areas.
RECONSTRUCTION
The reconstruction and rehabilitation works are planned with the aim of restoring the building’s original appearance, in accordance with the investor’s requirements, the original project documentation from 1937, and current regulations for this type of structure.
The spatial composition and the authentic external appearance of the building from 1937 will be fully preserved.
As part of the rehabilitation and reconstruction, the internal functional organization of the space will be altered. The existing studios will be removed, and the building will be returned to its original function—as an exhibition space.
Compared to the original design, the newly planned layout will include auxiliary rooms necessary for this type of facility, in compliance with applicable regulations.
It is planned to restore the building to its original height—ground floor only (G+0).
