Hotel Promenada Palace

Hotel “Djoke Jovanovića” in Niška Banja was built in 1937, according to the project of Dragutin Miličević. After the fire in 1962, when the attic was completely burned, the addition of the third floor was carried out, according to the project of arch. Loves Milošević. The project for the reconstruction, extension and superstructure of the attic and the revitalization of the building was carried out in 2008 and 2009, when its implementation began. The form of the existing building is eclectic, based on the Renaissance-Classicist base and Mannerist softening of the base, forming a semi-circular corner facade and freer interpolation of the balcony. The central composition consists of a facade with a colonnade in a combination of Doric and composite pilasters and capitels.
The hotel complex is divided into two units, the accommodation area and the wellness center. The units are functionally completely separated by separate entrances, stairs and elevators, and there is also the possibility of direct communication between both parts.

The project of revitalization of the building, especially in the part of extension and superstructure of the building, resulted from several conflicting variants. The one that starts from the existing authentic architectural style characteristic was adopted. In this manner, first of all, the existing third floor is being adapted. This was carried out by stylistic logic, which implies that above the existing robust Doric pilasters on the lower floors, Ionic or Corinthian pilasters are added on higher levels (rows in architecture). Since the lower floors already have the Doric and Corinthian styles, it is logical that the third floor should be built in the Ionic style. Above all this, the attic is being built in its original form, according to the preserved documentation. The extension of the northwestern annex was planned in the Mannerist style with a repetition of the circular form on the opposite corner. By applying glass in a historical grid, a discrete intention was implemented to connect two historical times, the contemporary and the time of the creation of the object.
