Revitalization of a Traditional Townhouse – Kopitareva, Niš

In the oldest core of Niš, in Kopitareva Street, there was a run-down townhouse from the 19th century and on the same plot, in slightly better condition, a house from the beginning of the 20th century, with the status of a cultural monument. Both were one household, and even today, after a radical revitalization process, they remain a single entity. These two stylistically different buildings, which make the area extremely picturesque, are additionally connected by an underground floor and an annex in the depth of the plot. The complex is planned for catering and hotel purposes: the first floor has hostel rooms, and the ground and basement have catering facilities. For functional reasons, the buildings are divided into three sub-units, which consist of two authentic historical buildings, connected by a courtyard annex and a basement floor under the entire plot. The addition of the courtyard annex and the construction of the underground floor created economic prerequisites for the preservation of the original part of the building. The building was recognized at the Days of Architecture in 2009.
