Repair, Reconstruction, and Revitalization

The old slaughterhouse in Velika Plana is situated within an abandoned industrial-economic complex located in the very center of Velika Plana, on Miloš Veliki Street, cadastral parcel no. 996/5, cadastral municipality Velika Plana 1. The building was constructed in 1886 by German industrialists Christian Scheuss and Wilhelm Schumacher. Due to its spatial, technical, aesthetic, and functional characteristics, it represents a valuable example of industrial architecture from the late 19th and early 20th centuries and has been declared a cultural monument.
The building of the old slaughterhouse was designed by the “Engineering-Technical Bureau Stojan Veljković and Otto Lorenz.” The structure consists of two wings forming an “L” shape in plan view. At the inner corner of the “L”, the junction is accentuated by a staircase tower. The building is organized over four levels: basement, ground floor, first floor, and a high attic. Vertical circulation is provided by a pedestrian staircase located in the tower and a freight elevator on the opposite side.
PROTECTIVE MEASURES
The reconstruction and rehabilitation of the building include a set of works aimed at restoring the appearance of the structure, in accordance with the investor’s requirements and current regulations for this type of building.
Above all, the spatial composition and authentic exterior appearance of the building from the early 20th century will be fully preserved.
